Festes de Moros i Cristians En honor a Sant Hipòlit
Fiesta of Cocentaina
The "Fiestas de Moros y Cristianos" of Cocentaina is one of the three major festivals celebrated in the town, along with the Fira de Tots Sants, around November 1, and the Virgen de Milagro, on April 19.
The Moors and Christians are a festive evocation of events that marked the history of Cocentaina between the 13th and 14th centuries, when the old Muslim Qusantaniya was incorporated into the old Kingdom of Valencia, thus giving birth to the current Cocentaina.
The two representative sides, the Christian and the Muslim, recreate those medieval confrontations with the corresponding historical licences, since these celebrations appeared centuries later, in the 18th century.
These are a few days of music, color, brotherhood and good atmosphere in the streets of a hard-working town that knows how to take care of its history and proudly shows it to visitors.
