The Fiesta

The Moors and Christians festival is one of the three big celebrations of Cocentaina, with the All Sants Fair, November, and the Virgin of Miracle, on 19 April.

Moors and Christians is a festive evocation of some events that marked the history of Cocentaina between the 13th and 14th centuries, when the ancient Muslim Qusantaniya was incorporated to the ancient Kingdom of València.

The two representative sides, the Christians and the Moors, recreate those mediaeval clashes with some historical licences, because these celebrations appeared centuries afterwards, in the 18th century.

They are days of music, colour, fraternity and good atmosphere in the streets of a hard-working village that knows to take care his history and shows it proudly to the visitors.
